Our centre director Prof. Ji Yinglin was invited to attend the 13th International Cognitive Linguistics Conference held in Newcastle, United Kingdom in July 2015. She submitted an abstract of an article on “Linguistic and conceptual representation of motion in English and Chinese”. She investigated the properties of linguistic structures and patterns of psychological cognition in encoding caused motion events by examining English and Chinese speakers at different age levels. Her study reveals possible influence of the linguistic system on spatial cognition in general.
