Our center director Prof. Ji Yinglin attended the first International Conference on Cognitive Linguistics and Pragmatics in Nanjing in October 2014, and delivered a speech on “How English and Chinese children judge language-related motion event similarities”. In this speech, she discussed whether superficial language variation would influence the speaker’s mental representation of space from the perspective of language typology and linguistic relativity. The presentation was very well received, and the participants expressed great interest in the study of the relationship between language and thought using psychological techniques.
