摘要::
This is a brief overview on the recent research results on nano-optics of my group in 2009 in the Center for Optics, Photonics and Lasers (CPOL), University Laval, Quebec, Canada.
In the first part, I will report our results on 1) Dynamic deformation of a biological cells in the dual-trap optical tweezers; 2) Metallic superlens designed by close to the long range SPP waveguide mode cutoff condition; 3) Femtosecond laser fabrication of fiber Bragg gratings and fiber lasers 4) Optical trap and manipulation of nano-rods, along with evaluation of their impacts and the feedback from the international research communities. Many ideas of the projects have been initiated and discussed within the research group of Prof. H. Niu at Shenzhen University during my sabbatical stay as an invited professor in the Institute of Opto-Electronics, Shenzhen University in 2008.
In the second part, I will present our two recent works on the robust object detection in aerial imagery, which have been published in SPIE conference on Defence and Security, Orlando USA, April 2010. Namely, the component-based object detection using the mean-shift segmentation, support vector machine and spatial-relation based combination and the object detection based on the Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) and the Affinity Propagation algorithm.
