I am currently professor and associate dean of the School of Foreign Languages at Shenzhen University. Before moving to Shenzhen in 1995, I taught English at Shantou University. I received my MA in English language and literature from Liaoning University. From August 2009 to July 2010, I worked as a visiting scholar at Sydney University. I have received a number of prestigious awards such as Research Innovation Award of Shenzhen University and Teaching Excellence Award of Guangdong Province. Currently I serve on the editorial board of Functional Linguistics Review in China. My research interests include cognitive and functional linguistics, applied linguistics, discourse analysis, language curriculum design and the Sydney School pedagogy.
